An attorney representing Rory McIlroy filed documents for divorce on May 13 in Palm Beach County, Florida, according to online records.
Rory McIlroy and Erica McIlroy, the defendant in the filing, have been married for seven years and have a daughter, Poppy, who is three years old.
McIlroy is asking for enforcement of a prenuptial agreement between the two and to start a shared plan on parenting.
TMZ first reported the news.
“Rory McIlroy’s communications team confirmed today that a divorce has been filed," McIlroy’s representatives told the Telegraph Sport. "They stressed Rory’s desire to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible. He will not be making any further comment.”
The divorce filing comes days before the 35-year-old Mcllroy is expected to compete in the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, and a day after winning the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship.
The world's No. 2 ranked player hasn't won a major in 10 years, and the last time the PGA was held at Valhalla in 2014, McIlroy won the tournament by one stroke over Phil Mickelson.
